The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day, as well as Wednesday, January 1, 2026, for the New Year celebration.

The announcement was made on Monday in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The minister urged Nigerians to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility, and sacrifice associated with the birth of Jesus Christ, describing the festive season as a time for unity and compassion.

He called on citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity, to use the holidays to pray for peace, improved security, and national progress. Tunji-Ojo also advised Nigerians to remain law-abiding and security-conscious throughout the celebrations.

The Federal Government wished Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
