FG CANCELS 65TH INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE, SAYS MILESTONE REMAINS SIGNIFICANT
The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the customary Independence Day parade earlier scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in celebration of Nigeria’s 65th anniversary.
In a statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, the government stressed that the decision does not diminish the significance of the milestone.
“While the parade will not hold, other programmes lined up for the 65th Independence anniversary remain intact. The government urges Nigerians to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms and regrets any inconvenience the cancellation may cause,” the statement read.
The announcement comes amid ongoing reforms and economic adjustments being championed by the Tinubu administration.
Despite the absence of the parade, the government reassured citizens that the day would still be marked with other national activities to honor Nigeria’s journey since independence in 1960.
