FG BEGINS TRAINING FOR 5,000 SMART METER INSTALLERS NATIONWIDE
The Federal Government has commenced a nationwide training programme for 5,000 smart meter installers in a bid to accelerate metering and improve electricity service delivery.
The initiative, flagged off on Thursday by the Ministry of Power, aims to bridge the huge metering gap and reduce reliance on estimated billing.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said the trained personnel will be equipped with modern technical skills to ensure efficient installation, calibration, and maintenance of smart meters.
“This is a key component of our strategy to reform the power sector. Accurate metering promotes transparency and builds consumer confidence,” Adelabu stated.
The training, being conducted in collaboration with electricity distribution companies and technical partners, covers safety standards, digital metering technology, and customer engagement.
Upon completion, the certified installers will be deployed across various DisCos to fast-track the rollout of prepaid meters to millions of households and businesses.
The programme is expected to create immediate employment opportunities while supporting the government’s goal of sustainable power supply.
