FG BEGINS REHABILITATION OF 13 POLICE TRAINING INSTITUTIONS

The Federal Government has awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of 13 police training institutions across Nigeria as part of efforts to improve the facilities used to train personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, disclosed the development after the National Economic Council meeting in Abuja, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima. He said 80 per cent of the contractors had already received their award letters.

Aiyedatiwa said the rehabilitation exercise is expected to take three weeks, with the immediate objective of putting the institutions in suitable condition for the resumption of police training programmes.

He added that efforts were underway to accelerate the release of funds required for the actual commencement and completion of the rehabilitation works.

The development comes amid broader government efforts to strengthen police training and improve the capacity of security personnel to respond to Nigeria’s security challenges.

The governor said effective policing requires properly trained personnel and institutions that meet minimum standards for professional training.

He noted that the rehabilitation programme was particularly important given the security challenges facing the country and the need to continually improve the skills and preparedness of police officers.

The Federal Government has also been pursuing wider reforms in police education and training, including efforts to modernise training institutions and improve accreditation and professional standards.

The rehabilitation of the 13 institutions is expected to provide better learning and training environments for police personnel and support the government’s broader objective of developing a more professional and effective police force.
