The Federal Government has begun construction of a 120MVA electricity transmission substation in Mashi Local Government Area of Katsina State to strengthen power supply infrastructure in the area.

The project, being handled by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, is scheduled for completion by March 2027.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, said the facility would improve the transmission network’s ability to deliver available electricity to Katsina and neighbouring communities.

The 132/33kV substation will have two 60MVA transformers, providing a combined capacity of 120MVA. Its role will be to support electricity transmission and distribution to consumers.

Tegbe said the investment would benefit farmers, traders, artisans and households by improving the infrastructure needed for businesses and everyday activities.

He added that compensation issues affecting the project had been resolved, allowing construction to move forward.

The minister urged TCN officials, the contractor and supervising engineers to maintain high standards throughout construction, equipment installation and testing.

With the March 2027 deadline approaching, he stressed the need to complete the work on schedule while prioritising safety and quality.

The project forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure and support economic growth.
