FG APPROVES N1TRN KANO METROPOLITAN RAIL PROJECT
The Federal Government has granted approval for the construction of a N1 trillion Metropolitan Rail Service in Kano State, a landmark infrastructure project expected to transform urban transportation and boost economic growth in the region.
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, announced the approval on Wednesday while addressing members of the Kano contingent who participated in the 2025 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Borno State. The announcement was confirmed in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to Governor Yusuf, the rail project aims to deliver a modern, efficient, and affordable mass transit system linking key districts within the Kano metropolis. The initiative is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve mobility, and provide residents with a reliable public transportation option.
The governor highlighted that the project reflects his administration’s strengthened collaboration with the Federal Government under the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing that this partnership is crucial for attracting strategic development projects to Kano.
Describing the Kano Metropolitan Rail Service as a transformative intervention, Governor Yusuf noted that it would significantly enhance residents’ quality of life and position Kano as a leading transportation and commercial hub in northern Nigeria.
He assured that the state government would coordinate closely with federal agencies to ensure the project’s smooth execution, maintain transparency, and maximize benefits for the people of Kano State. Governor Yusuf also expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for approving the initiative and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to support federal efforts through policies and infrastructure development.
