FG ALLOCATES ₦2.5 TRILLION TO ABUJA-LOKOJA, ENUGU-PORT HARCOURT, 122 ROAD PROJECTS

The Federal Government has approved ₦2.5 trillion for the construction and rehabilitation of 122 road projects across the country, including major highways such as the Abuja-Lokoja and Enugu-Port Harcourt corridors.

The funding is aimed at accelerating the completion of critical transport infrastructure, improving connectivity, and enhancing the movement of people and goods nationwide.

Government officials said the investment forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise Nigeria’s road network, reduce travel time, lower transportation costs, and stimulate economic activities in key commercial and industrial regions.

Infrastructure experts described the allocation as a significant boost for the road sector, noting that improved highways would support trade, agriculture, manufacturing, and regional integration.

They, however, stressed the importance of timely project execution, effective monitoring, and adequate maintenance to ensure value for public spending and long-term sustainability.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to closing Nigeria’s infrastructure gap through sustained investment in strategic road projects that promote economic growth, improve safety, and enhance national development.
