FERNANDES TAKES AIM AT CARRICK AS MAN UTD LURCH INTO FRESH CRISIS
Fernandes Questions Carrick’s Tactics After Man United’s Heavy Defeat
Manchester United’s troubles deepened after a crushing 4–1 Champions League defeat to Como, with captain Bruno Fernandes questioning the team’s approach under manager Michael Carrick.
The loss extended United’s winless run to seven matches, adding pressure on Carrick and raising fresh concerns about the team’s performances.
United conceded in the second minute and struggled to recover. Speaking afterwards, Fernandes pointed to a lack of pressure on the ball and poor movement as problems that made the evening more difficult.
The midfielder also questioned the decision to sit back and give Como space. He explained that the coaching staff’s approach involved waiting for opportunities to regain possession instead of pressing opponents individually.
According to Fernandes, allowing opponents time on the ball helped them build confidence. It also forced United’s players to spend long periods chasing possession, leaving them tired when they finally had a chance to attack.
Como, managed by Cesc Fàbregas, made the most of United’s struggles. Nico Paz scored twice, while Anastasios Douvikas and Jacobo Ramón also found the net. Joshua Zirkzee scored a late consolation goal for the visitors.
Fernandes did not call for Carrick’s departure, but his comments brought the team’s tactical problems into public view at an already difficult moment.
For Carrick, the challenge is growing. United need to end their winless run, improve their performances and give supporters a reason to believe the team can turn things around.
