FEMALE VIGILANTE LEADER, THREE OTHERS KILLED IN PLATEAU ATTACKS
Fresh violence has rocked Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, where armed men suspected to be Fulani militias killed four people in separate attacks between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Among the victims was a respected female vigilante leader known as Tawa, who was ambushed and murdered alongside another woman while traveling on a motorcycle near Butura Kampani village. The motorcycle driver was left injured in the attack.
Confirming the tragic incidents, Sabastine Magit, President of the Butura Youth Movement (BYM), said two more vigilante volunteers were killed a day earlier in Maikatako village, with another person sustaining injuries.
Magit described the killings as “barbaric and senseless,” noting that the victims were part of community efforts to support security agencies and protect civilians, especially those in mining areas.
“In the past 24 hours, four of our members, including a dedicated female vigilante leader, have been murdered in separate incidents. These coordinated attacks are aimed at weakening our communities and making us vulnerable,” he said.
The youth leader also accused Fulani herders of orchestrating the attacks and questioned why security agencies failed to act despite earlier warnings of possible invasions in the area.
The killings have sparked renewed calls for a stronger security presence and urgent intervention to protect vulnerable rural communities in Plateau State, which has witnessed repeated cycles of violence over the years.
