FEDERAL GOVERNMENT UNVEILS NEW CNG STATION TO BOOST LOCAL SUPPLY
The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated an integrated Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refueling station at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, in a move aimed at strengthening domestic gas supply and advancing cleaner energy alternatives.
At the commissioning ceremony, the Executive Director of the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund, Oluwole Adama, described the project as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s transition to gas-powered energy solutions.
He explained that the facility is more than a refueling outlet, noting that it represents progress, strategic collaboration, and a strong commitment to expanding domestic gas utilization in line with national energy objectives. According to him, the initiative reinforces efforts to promote cleaner fuels while supporting the country’s broader energy transition agenda.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire, commended the development, stating that the station would benefit both the campus community and residents of surrounding areas.
He added that the facility would also open new avenues for research, practical training, and innovation in alternative and sustainable energy technologies.
The project forms part of the federal government’s wider strategy to accelerate renewable energy adoption and deepen Nigeria’s shift toward cleaner fuel sources.
