FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PLACES 46 PERSONS EXPOSED TO EBOLA PATIENT ON 21-DAY NO-FLY LIST
Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo directs NCAA to issue travel restrictions across local and international airlines as contact monitoring and airport surveillance intensify nationwide
The Federal Government has mandated a 21-day travel restriction for 46 individuals identified as primary contacts of Nigeria’s recently confirmed Ebola patient, as part of emergency containment protocols to prevent the potential spread of the virus.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, directed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to immediately notify all domestic and international airlines operating within Nigerian airspace to enforce the 21-day no-fly restriction against the designated individuals.
The 21-day duration aligns strictly with the maximum incubation period of the Ebola Virus Disease, during which public health monitoring, daily symptom tracking, and self-isolation protocols are enforced by joint response teams from the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
Concurrently, aviation authorities have escalated port health surveillance across major international and regional airports, reinstating mandatory temperature screenings, digital health declaration filings, and comprehensive travel history tracking for all arriving and departing passengers.
Reassuring the public and international travel partners, government officials emphasized that none of the monitored contacts have tested positive for the virus and that inter-agency coordination between aviation authorities, border agencies, and public health task forces remains active to ensure national health security.
