FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DECLARES JUNE 12 A PUBLIC HOLIDAY FOR DEMOCRACY DAY
The Federal Government has announced that Thursday, June 12, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday in honor of this year’s Democracy Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Sunday by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians on marking 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.
“June 12 stands as a symbol of our collective journey toward building a nation grounded in truth, justice, and lasting peace, with a promising future,” he stated.
He further noted that the past 26 years highlight Nigeria’s resilience, strength, and unwavering hope.
Reaffirming the government’s dedication to democratic principles, Tunji-Ojo emphasized the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration to upholding the universal values of democracy, rooted in the freely expressed will of the people and their influence on the nation’s political, economic, social, and cultural development.
