FEDERAL GOVERNMENT APPROVES 113 GAS PROJECTS TO DRIVE INDUSTRIALISATION

The Federal Government has given the green light to 113 gas infrastructure projects aimed at accelerating industrial growth and enhancing energy security across Nigeria.

The initiative, coordinated through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and relevant ministries, focuses on developing gas processing facilities, pipelines, and distribution networks to ensure reliable supply to industries. Officials say the projects will reduce gas flaring, promote domestic utilisation, and support the transition to a gas-based industrial economy.

Key sectors expected to benefit include manufacturing, power generation, and petrochemicals. The government believes adequate gas supply will lower production costs, attract investment, and create thousands of jobs along the value chain.

This move aligns with the National Gas Policy and efforts to harness Nigeria’s vast gas reserves for economic diversification away from crude oil. Stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that reliable energy is critical for the success of industrial hubs and special economic zones.

Implementation is expected to commence in phases, with priority given to projects in industrial clusters. The government urged private sector participation through public-private partnerships to ensure timely delivery and sustainability.

The approval underscores the administration’s commitment to using natural resources for broad-based development.
