FEC CANCELS NYSC PASSING-OUT PARADE, EXTENDS ORIENTATION TO SIX WEEKS

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the cancellation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) passing-out parade and the extension of the orientation course from three to six weeks.

The decision, taken at the weekly FEC meeting, is aimed at enhancing the quality of training and better preparing corps members for national service. Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. John Enoh, explained that the extended orientation period will allow for more comprehensive modules on leadership, entrepreneurship, and civic responsibility.

“The passing-out parade has been suspended to focus resources on impactful training. We are committed to making the NYSC scheme more effective and relevant to national development,” Enoh stated. The changes are expected to take effect from the next batch of corps members.

The move has generated mixed reactions among stakeholders, with some praising the emphasis on substance over ceremony while others expressed concerns about potential logistical challenges.

NYSC officials have assured that necessary adjustments will be made to ensure smooth implementation of the new directives.
