FCT RESIDENT DOCTORS BEGIN 7-DAY WARNING STRIKE OVER HEALTH SYSTEM FAILURES

Medical services in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) face disruption as resident doctors have embarked on a seven-day warning strike.

The decision was announced in a communique signed by the President of the Association of Resident Doctors (NARD-FCT), Dr. George Ebong, alongside other executive members.

According to the doctors, the strike is a response to what they described as a long-standing systemic failure in the FCT’s health system, which they insist requires comprehensive and urgent reforms.

Dr. Ebong explained that doctors in the FCT are working under immense pressure, often forced to cover multiple departments due to severe shortages of staff and resources.

The association emphasized that the action is only a warning strike, but if their demands are ignored, they may be compelled to take more drastic steps.

The strike has sparked concerns among residents who rely heavily on government hospitals in Abuja and surrounding areas, with fears that patients may be left stranded if the situation lingers.

The doctors are calling on the government to act swiftly to address the root problems, improve working conditions, and ensure that patients in the FCT get the quality healthcare they deserve.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
