The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed viral reports claiming that Naval Officer Lt. Ahmed Yerima, who recently had a heated exchange with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, survived an assassination attempt.

The reports, which circulated on Sunday night, alleged that the officer was trailed by unidentified men in two unmarked Hilux vans dressed in black, following him from NIPCO Filling Station off the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way.

However, the FCT Police, through their spokesperson Josephine Adeh, stated in a formal release that no such incident occurred within Abuja.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory.
The public is advised to disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic,” Adeh said.

The police further urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station, stressing that such misinformation can cause unnecessary alarm.

This clarification comes amid heightened public attention following Lt. Yerima’s earlier confrontation with Minister Wike, which had sparked nationwide debate over security protocols and the conduct of public officials.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
