FCT: ‘MY HATERS ARE USING ROADS, WATER I PROVIDED’ – WIKE DECLARES

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that his critics and detractors are enjoying the benefits of his administration’s projects in Abuja.

Wike made the statement on Friday while flagging off the construction of the Transit Way, N2, which connects the Central Area to Wuse District and includes two bridges.

Speaking at the event, the minister emphasized that despite the hatred and blackmail from his opponents, they continue to make use of the infrastructure his leadership has delivered.

“I told you that when you are doing your work, people may hate you. All those who hate us are using the road, all those who hate us will use the water, they will use the street light,” Wike said.

He added that the best response to critics is performance and delivery of quality governance.

“So it’s an opportunity to improvise for them, you don’t need to worry yourselves. They are just looking for an opportunity to come closer to us and because we are very strict, the only way they can come closer to us is to blackmail us. Unfortunately, we don’t know the meaning — there is no blackmail in our dictionary.
The only thing we know in our dictionary is to work to the satisfaction of our people.”

Wike also expressed dissatisfaction with the FCT Mandate Secretary on Security for failing to provide updates on the completion status of 12 police stations under construction across the capital city.

He warned that the official risked redeployment if he continued to underperform.

“Director of Security, we have built not less than 12 police stations and up till now, you have not come to tell me how many are ready.
The day I go and find out, that is the day that you will go to the Institute of Policy Studies so that you will allow another person to do the job.”

Wike assured that more projects would be flagged off until October 20, with several others scheduled for commissioning starting in November.

“It has not been easy. This flag off will continue till the 20th of October, and from November we will start to commission some other projects which we think are very vital and will grow the economy of the FCT and improve the landscape of the FCT,” he added.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
