Key political stakeholders convene at the governor’s private residence to consolidate peace agreements and map out political alignment ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has led members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the state’s 23 local government council chairmen to a high-level meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara at his private residence in Port Harcourt.

The meeting represents a major continuation of ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at resolving the protracted political confrontation that has fractured the state's leadership structure since late 2023.

Discussions focused primarily on consolidating peace frameworks, rebuilding executive-legislative harmony, and exploring strategies to integrate political loyalists across both camps into a unified framework ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, members of the state assembly were seen exchanging pleasantries and formal greetings with Governor Fubara before taking group photographs alongside Minister Wike and members of the political coalition.

The meeting follows months of intense political friction marked by division within the state legislature, legal challenges, and federal interventions previously instituted to maintain governance stability across the state.

Political observers view the revived dialogue between Wike and Fubara as a pivotal moment for Rivers State politics, signaling a significant shift toward political realignment and institutional stability in the oil-rich state.
