FCT IDENTIFIES FLOOD-PRONE COMMUNITIES, LAUNCHES AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has identified communities at high risk of flooding and begun an awareness campaign to prepare residents ahead of the rainy season.

The initiative is aimed at educating residents on flood prevention measures, emergency response, and the need to avoid activities that increase the risk of flooding, such as blocking drainage channels and building on waterways.

FCT officials said the campaign will focus on vulnerable communities while encouraging residents to remain alert and cooperate with relevant authorities to reduce the impact of flooding.

Environmental experts have warned that rapid urban development, poor drainage systems, and climate change have increased the likelihood of flooding in many parts of the capital territory.

They advised residents in flood-prone areas to take safety precautions, maintain clear drainage pathways, and follow government advisories during periods of heavy rainfall.

The FCTA reaffirmed its commitment to improving flood management through public awareness, infrastructure upgrades, and stronger collaboration with communities to protect lives and property.
