FCCPC SEALS IMPORTER’S PREMISES OVER ALLEGED DEFECTIVE BATTERY SALES
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the premises of an importer in Lagos over the alleged sale of defective batteries to consumers.
According to the commission, the enforcement action followed multiple complaints from customers who reported that the batteries purchased from the company were faulty and failed shortly after use. The allegations prompted an investigation into the importer’s products and business practices.
Officials of the FCCPC said the move is part of ongoing efforts to protect consumers from substandard and potentially unsafe products in the Nigerian market. They added that businesses found violating consumer protection laws will face strict regulatory action, including sealing of premises and possible prosecution.
The commission emphasized that defective electrical and electronic products pose safety risks, including fire hazards and damage to property, stressing the need for importers and distributors to ensure quality compliance before products are released to the market.
Consumers were advised to remain vigilant and report any cases of substandard goods or unfair trade practices through official FCCPC channels.
The FCCPC reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing consumer rights, maintaining fair competition, and ensuring that only safe and certified products are available to the public.
Investigations into the affected importer are ongoing, and further regulatory actions are expected depending on the outcome.
