“FANI-KAYODE, OMOKRI, SHEHU SANI MOURN BUHARI: ‘A PROUD NIGERIAN SON HAS GONE’”
The passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari has sparked a wave of reactions from prominent Nigerian figures, including Femi Fani-Kayode, Reno Omokri, and Senator Shehu Sani, who all took to social media to pay their respects.
Buhari, who reportedly died on Sunday in a London clinic, was confirmed dead by his former spokesman, Garba Shehu, though no further details about the illness were disclosed.
Fani-Kayode: "A Proud Nigerian Son"
Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode described Buhari as a “great and proud son of Nigeria,” noting his contributions to the country in both military and civilian capacities.
“May the soul of President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR rest in peace,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Reno Omokri: “A Legacy Worth Emulating”
Reno Omokri, a former presidential media aide and critic of Buhari’s administration, put politics aside in his tribute. He praised the late president’s service to the country, saying:
“He served Nigeria in peacetime and war and left a legacy that was worthy of emulation in many areas.”
Omokri also offered Islamic prayers for Buhari, asking Almighty God to grant him al-Jannah Firdaus and strengthen his grieving family.
Shehu Sani: A Simple, Solemn Prayer
Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani offered a short but heartfelt prayer in Hausa and Arabic, asking for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy on Buhari’s soul.
“President Muhammadu Buhari; May Allah forgive his soul and grant him Aljanna Firdausi. Amin. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.”
Though the late president’s time in office was met with mixed reactions, these tributes reflect the respect given to a man who dedicated decades of his life to public service — as a military head of state, a democratically elected president, and a key figure in Nigeria’s complex political history.
His death marks the end of an era, and for many Nigerians, it is a moment to reflect on his legacy — both the accomplishments and the controversies — that defined his years in power.
