FAMILY RAISES ALARM AS RETIRED OGUN POLICE OFFICER DISAPPEARS AFTER MEETING ASSOCIATE

The family of a retired Superintendent of Police, Emmanuel Ahmed, has raised the alarm over his disappearance after he left his home in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to meet a business associate involved in cattle rearing. Ahmed reportedly went missing on July 23, 2026, after receiving a call from a Fulani man identified as Muhammed Saleh, who asked him to meet at Rounder along the Ayetoro Road before proceeding to Alamutu Market to sell two cows.

According to Ahmed’s son, Emmanuel Nehemiah, his father informed his wife about the proposed meeting before leaving home on his motorcycle. The retired police officer reportedly met Saleh at Rounder, where he was seen by police officers stationed at a nearby checkpoint. The officers told the family that they saw Ahmed carrying Saleh on his Bajaj motorcycle as they travelled in the direction of Alamutu Market, and that this was the last confirmed sighting of the retired officer.

Nehemiah said the family became worried after Ahmed failed to return home that night despite attempts to contact him. He explained that efforts to locate his father led the family to obtain Saleh’s telephone number and investigate his movements and contacts. However, both Saleh’s number and Ahmed’s telephone lines were reportedly switched off, heightening concerns about the retired officer’s whereabouts and raising questions over what may have happened after the two men left the checkpoint.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police, with the case initially handled by the division responsible for the area before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department and the anti-kidnapping unit at Eleweran. The family has continued to seek information about Ahmed, while investigators are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and determine the whereabouts of the man he was last seen travelling with.

Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Opeyemi Oluborode, said the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, had directed the command’s anti-kidnapping unit to intensify efforts to locate the retired officer and ensure his safe return. The police investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to trace Ahmed and establish what happened after his last confirmed sighting on July 23.
