FALANA URGES NIGERIANS TO DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY AS REVENUE RISES

Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has urged Nigerians to demand greater accountability from government at a time when public revenue is increasing.

Falana said higher government earnings should translate into better living conditions, improved public services and greater development for citizens.

The legal practitioner called on Nigerians to pay closer attention to how public funds are collected and spent, stressing that increased revenue should not be treated as an end in itself.

He urged citizens and civil society organisations to monitor government spending and demand transparency from public officials at both federal and state levels.

According to Falana, Nigerians have a constitutional right to question how public resources are managed and to hold elected officials accountable for their decisions.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening institutions responsible for checking corruption and ensuring that government agencies operate transparently.

The call comes amid reports of increased government revenue, with authorities highlighting stronger revenue collection as part of ongoing economic reforms.

Falana said the benefits of higher revenue should be visible in areas such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, security and social welfare.

He encouraged Nigerians to remain engaged in governance and use lawful channels to demand information and accountability from public institutions.

The senior lawyer maintained that improved revenue collection would have greater value when properly managed and converted into tangible benefits for citizens.
