FABREGAS MAKES SERIE A HISTORY AFTER GUIDING COMO TO BREAKTHROUGH SEASON

Cesc Fabregas has added another major achievement to his rapidly developing managerial career after being named Serie A Coach of the Year for the 2025/26 season, becoming only the third non-Italian to receive the prestigious honour.

The former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder was recognised for his outstanding work with Como, whom he guided to a historic campaign and a place in the UEFA Champions League. His achievement places him alongside Swedish coach Sven-Goran Eriksson and Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho as the only foreign-born coaches to have previously won the award.

Fabregas' success represents a remarkable rise since he moved into coaching. After joining Como as a player in 2022, the former Spain international retired from professional football and quickly began developing his coaching career within the club. He initially worked with Como's youth setup before taking charge of the first team on an interim basis in 2023.

He was subsequently appointed permanent head coach in 2024 after completing the necessary coaching requirements. Under his leadership, Como continued to develop into one of the most exciting sides in Italian football, eventually making a major breakthrough during the 2025/26 campaign.

Como's performances under Fabregas were particularly impressive considering the club's recent history. The team secured a high finish in Serie A and qualified for the Champions League, earning the opportunity to compete on Europe's biggest club stage for the first time. Fabregas has continued to oversee the club's progress into the 2026/27 season, where Como have already shown that their previous success was not a one-off achievement.

The Spanish coach has also attracted attention for the style of football he has introduced at Como, with the club becoming increasingly confident in possession and capable of competing against some of Italy's biggest teams. Their recent 2-1 victory away to Napoli further highlighted the progress made under Fabregas.

At just 39, Fabregas is now establishing himself as one of the most promising young managers in European football. His latest individual award further underlines the transformation from elite midfielder to highly regarded coach and marks another significant milestone in what could become a long managerial career.
