FAAN MOVES TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCY ACROSS NIGERIA’S AIR CARGO CHAIN
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria is working on a new framework aimed at improving the efficiency, coordination and overall performance of the country’s air cargo value chain. The initiative is expected to address some of the challenges affecting cargo movement and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the regional and international air freight market.
The framework is focused on creating a more organised cargo ecosystem by improving cooperation among the different stakeholders involved in cargo operations. These include freight forwarders, cargo agents, airlines, regulators and other service providers whose activities are connected to the movement of goods through Nigerian airports.
As part of the effort, FAAN has been engaging stakeholders on the development of the Aviacargo Village and an integrated cargo logistics hub. The proposed arrangement is expected to bring relevant cargo operators closer together, streamline cargo-handling processes and improve access control, regulatory compliance and operational standards.
The authority has also emphasised the importance of adopting modern systems and global best practices in the sector. Improved infrastructure, digital processes and clearer operational procedures are expected to reduce delays, strengthen security and make the cargo process more transparent and predictable for businesses involved in import and export activities.
FAAN said the reforms are part of broader efforts to unlock the economic potential of air cargo in Nigeria. By creating a more efficient and competitive cargo environment, the authority hopes to support trade, encourage investment and help Nigerian businesses take greater advantage of international markets.
