FAAN INTRODUCES AIRPORT RECYCLING INITIATIVE TO REDUCE WASTE
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has begun a waste recycling programme across airports in the country as part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability and improve waste management practices.
The initiative is aimed at reducing the amount of waste generated at airports by encouraging the collection, sorting, and recycling of materials such as plastics, paper, and other recyclable items.
FAAN said the programme aligns with global aviation sustainability standards and reflects its commitment to creating cleaner and more environmentally friendly airport environments. The authority added that the initiative will help reduce landfill waste while promoting responsible environmental practices among airport users and operators.
Environmental experts welcomed the move, noting that airports generate significant volumes of waste due to passenger traffic, commercial activities, and daily operations. They said effective recycling systems can help reduce environmental impact and support Nigeria’s broader climate goals.
FAAN said it will continue to explore sustainable solutions that improve airport operations while contributing to environmental protection and long-term development.
