Former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has called on the Federal Government to halt the ongoing bloodshed in Nigeria, warning that failure to act decisively only emboldens terrorists.

In a statement yesterday, Ezekwesili highlighted that more than 90% of the abducted Chibok girls were Christians, emphasizing the human cost of government inaction. She asked:

“Of what use are ‘leaders’ who do not value the lives of their people? Of what humanity are people in power and our society who defend such failures?”

Reflecting on the 2014 Chibok abduction, where nearly 300 schoolgirls were kidnapped in Borno State, Ezekwesili criticized the government and society for delaying decisive action. She said:

“Nigerians sat around debating politics while the parents of the girls cried in anguish, pleading to be believed. Their cries fell on deaf ears and hardened hearts.”

Ezekwesili warned that ignoring such threats has consequences. “If the government fails to act decisively against the terrorists, allowing them to go unpunished, it emboldens organized, deadly criminals,” she said.

Her statement serves as a strong reminder to authorities that urgent, proactive measures are needed to protect citizens and prevent further atrocities.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
