An explosion has occurred in the Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, sparking fresh security concerns in the area.

The Kwara State Government confirmed that the blast, which happened on Monday morning, involved an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, the device detonated along a road as a vehicle passed.

He said the explosion resulted in the instant death of a man, while a woman and her child, who were in the vehicle, were affected.

“The man died instantly, while the woman sustained injuries. She has been taken to the hospital and is responding to treatment, while the child escaped unhurt,” he stated.

Also speaking, the Special Assistant on Media to the Kaiama LGA Chairman, ZulQharnain Shero Musa, said the incident caused casualties, although the exact number remains unclear.

He added that preliminary findings suggest the explosive may have been planted by suspected insurgents.

The latest attack comes weeks after a deadly February assault on the same community, during which several residents were killed and properties destroyed.

The recurrence of violence has left residents in fear, with renewed calls for a stronger security presence and decisive action from authorities to prevent further attacks.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
