Ex-Senator Backs Tinubu’s $1 Trillion Economy Goal, Says Good Planning Is Key

Former senator Tolu Odebiyi has supported President Bola Tinubu’s ambition to build a $1 trillion Nigerian economy, saying careful planning and effective leadership will be essential to achieving it.

Odebiyi spoke on October 15, 2026, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, where the Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria honoured him with its Honorary Fellow Chartered Risk Manager award.

He praised the President’s economic vision and efforts to attract investment, strengthen institutions and create opportunities for growth. However, he stressed that ambitious policies must be backed by practical action.

According to Odebiyi, reaching the target will require disciplined implementation, sound governance and strong institutions. He also highlighted the importance of identifying potential problems early and preparing effective responses.

His message was straightforward: setting a big economic goal is only the beginning. Achieving it depends on how well policies are carried out and how effectively challenges are managed along the way.

The former lawmaker’s remarks place risk management at the centre of the discussion, highlighting the need to protect development plans from setbacks that could undermine their success.
