EX-OSUN LAWMAKER WARNS ATIKU AND OBI AGAINST MAKING UNREALISTIC CAMPAIGN PROMISES
Olatunbosun Oyintiloye cautions opposition leaders over populist rhetoric, urging a shift toward realistic economic frameworks rather than promising the reinstatement of fuel subsidies
A former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has cautioned opposition leaders specifically former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi against misleading Nigerians with unrealistic campaign promises.
Speaking with journalists in Osogbo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain advised opposition figures to refrain from exploiting current economic realities to score cheap political points through unfeasible declarations, such as promises to immediately restore petrol subsidies.
Oyintiloye noted that petroleum subsidy removal was a necessary structural intervention long acknowledged by successive administrations, adding that attempts by opposition candidates to promise a reversal without presenting sustainable fiscal alternatives amounts to political deception.
He emphasized that the ongoing economic reforms under the current administration, though challenging, are foundational steps toward stabilizing national finances, expanding infrastructure funding, and freeing up resources for critical social investments like student loans and agricultural development.
The former lawmaker called on key opposition figures to adopt a more constructive approach to political engagement by presenting workable, data-driven policy alternatives rather than engaging in populist rhetoric that misleads the electorate.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain patient and discerning as government interventions, including gas expansion schemes and local refining capacity growth, begin to yield long-term benefits across the federation.
