Plateau Leader Raises Alarm Over ‘Silent Takeover’ of Communities by Terrorists

A former Plateau State governorship candidate, Chief Yohana Yilpwan Margif, has accused Governor Caleb Mutfwang of turning a blind eye as terrorists and armed herders allegedly invade and occupy several communities in the state.

Margif, who is the Waziri Mushere in Bokkos Local Government Area, said in a statement on Sunday that the attacks are part of a coordinated plan by Fulani herders to wipe out the Mushere people and take control of their lands.

According to him, the assaults on villages across Plateau are no longer random, but a strategic land-grab aimed at capturing at least 40% of the state’s farming lands. He warned that the attackers are well-armed and organised, while the affected communities remain defenceless due to a lack of government protection.

“What is more painful,” he said, “is that Governor Mutfwang has failed to act on the promises he made to grieving communities, which may have emboldened the attackers.”

Margif stressed that Mushere Chiefdom is now a direct target, describing the situation as an open war. He urged Plateau citizens to stand united, reject complacency, and demand urgent action from leaders “who seem to have forgotten their duty to protect lives and property.”

As tensions rise, residents are calling for immediate intervention to prevent further loss of lives, land, and livelihoods.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
