EX-LAWMAKER SLAMS AMAECHI: “HE NEGLECTED SOUTH-SOUTH AS MINISTER”

A former House of Representatives member, Oghene Egoh, has taken a swipe at ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of neglecting the South-South region during his time in office.

Egoh’s comments come after Amaechi described the Federal Government’s Lagos–Calabar coastal road project as “fraudulent” and claimed he would have canceled it if he had become president.

Speaking in Lagos on Monday, Egoh, who represented Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency and recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissed Amaechi’s criticisms as baseless.

“Amaechi didn’t do enough for the South-South when he was Minister of Transportation. Instead, he prioritized building a railway to Niger Republic while our own region’s infrastructure was ignored,” Egoh said.

He hailed the Lagos–Calabar coastal road as a game-changing project that would create jobs, boost trade, and connect Lagos to the South-South, fostering economic growth and national unity.

Egoh also praised President Bola Tinubu’s “bold” economic decisions, such as the removal of fuel subsidies, saying short-term hardships would give way to long-term gains.

“Yes, there is hunger now, but prices of rice and tomatoes are already coming down. Soon, other commodities will follow,” he assured.

The former lawmaker urged Nigerians to remain patient, stressing that Tinubu’s reforms were setting the stage for a stronger economy and food security.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
