EX-GOV JANG REJECTS WIKE-BACKED PLATEAU PDP CONGRESS

Former Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang, has rejected a recent congress organised by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The congress, held in Jos, reportedly produced Peter Tongshep as the new state chairman of the PDP, alongside 38 other executive members.

The event was attended by notable figures within the Wike-aligned faction, including former Sports Minister Damishi Sango, Musa I. Azi, and Board of Trustees members Timothy Golu and Johnbul Shekarau.

However, in a statement, Jang described the congress as a “kangaroo exercise”, alleging it was orchestrated by self-serving individuals working with external undemocratic forces.

He insisted that Raymond Dabo remains the legitimate chairman of the PDP in Plateau State, having emerged from a congress monitored by the electoral body.

According to Jang, the party’s State Working Committee has no internal division, and there was no justification for conducting another congress.

“All actions of those involved in the so-called congress are null and void,” he said, reaffirming that the Dabo-led leadership remains the only recognised structure of the party in the state.

Jang attributed the situation to the ongoing crisis within the PDP at the national level, noting that efforts are underway by party leaders to restore unity and reposition the party.

He urged members to remain united and avoid distractions, stressing the need to focus on resolving internal disputes and strengthening the party ahead of future political activities.

Meanwhile, the faction loyal to Dabo had earlier suspended Tongshep shortly after his emergence as chairman in the parallel congress, further deepening the party’s internal rift in the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
