EX-GOV ASPIRANT SUES YAYI OVER STATE OF ORIGIN
Former Ogun State governorship aspirant Abayomi Hunye has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking a review of Senator Solomon Adeola’s past electoral documents over his declared state of origin.
Hunye is asking the court to examine nomination forms submitted by Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, during previous elections to determine what state of origin he declared when he contested for political office in Lagos State.
Hunye’s legal team said the case was not aimed at disputing Adeola’s identity as a Yewa indigene but at examining alleged inconsistencies in official documents submitted under oath. They said certified copies of the relevant documents obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission would be presented in court.
The lawsuit is the latest development in the dispute between Hunye and Adeola, who emerged as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for Ogun State in the 2027 election.
Hunye also questioned his alleged suspension from the APC, saying the party accepted his payment for the governorship nomination forms weeks after the reported suspension and subsequently allowed him to participate in the primary.
Adeola has previously rejected claims that he is from Ekiti State and described such allegations as false and defamatory. His camp has maintained that his ancestral roots are in Ogun State.
The court will now determine the legal issues raised in Hunye’s suit.
