EX-EFCC STAFF ALLEGEDLY STEALS ₦22 MILLION, TRIAL ADJOURNED TO DECEMBER
The Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the trial of Polycarp Andrew, a former exhibit keeper of the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to December 11, 2025.
Andrew, who was dismissed from the commission, faces six counts of criminal breach of trust after allegedly stealing over ₦22 million from exhibits under his custody. He reportedly absconded after investigations linked him to the theft and was later arrested in Taraba State.
During the court session, Andrew pleaded not guilty to all charges. Prosecution counsel, H.M. Mohammed, stated that the EFCC was ready to present two witnesses: an EFCC officer and an official from Opay Bank.
Meanwhile, defence counsel, D.B. Kwajafa, requested an adjournment to review a recently served flash drive containing the defendant’s extra-judicial statement. Although the prosecution opposed the request, Justice A. Bello granted it, setting the next hearing date for December 11, 2025.
The case highlights ongoing concerns over internal control and accountability within government agencies, as the commission works to recover missing funds and maintain public trust.
