EUROPEAN NATIONS CONDEMN ATROCITIES IN SUDAN, DEMAND IMMEDIATE END TO VIOLENCE
European nations have expressed outrage and condemnation over the escalating atrocities in Sudan, particularly in North Darfur, the Kordofan region, and El-Fasher, where violence has intensified amid the ongoing civil war.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, 29 countries — including Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, Canada, and others — denounced the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and other armed groups for widespread atrocities against civilians following the fall of El-Fasher.
The nations cited ethnically motivated killings, conflict-related sexual violence, deliberate starvation, and obstruction of humanitarian aid, describing them as “heinous violations of international humanitarian law.”
“Such acts, if substantiated, constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity,”
the statement read. “We condemn all atrocities in the strongest possible terms and demand that the violence stop immediately.”
The European governments also referenced credible reports documenting massacres of patients and civilians in El-Fasher hospitals in late October — an event that provoked global outrage.
Reaffirming that “impunity must end,” the countries called for accountability for perpetrators and justice for victims, describing it as not only a legal requirement but a moral duty to protect the Sudanese people.
They further condemned starvation being used as a weapon of war, demanding unrestricted humanitarian access for WFP, UNICEF, and other aid organizations.
The allies urged both warring parties to immediately agree to a ceasefire and a three-month humanitarian truce, echoing the recent Quad statement.
“Only a broad and inclusive Sudanese-owned political process can bring peace and stability,” the joint communiqué stated,
reaffirming Europe’s support for Sudan’s sovereignty and its people’s right to peace without external interference.
