The European Union has unveiled a €70 million package to support Nigeria in the areas of security and agriculture.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the EU Delegation in Nigeria during a joint press briefing with government officials.

The funding will be channelled into strengthening security institutions, community policing initiatives, and conflict prevention programmes, as well as boosting sustainable agricultural practices, farmer training, and food security projects.

EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Roeland van de Geer, described the support as part of the EU’s commitment to Nigeria’s stability and economic development.

“This package reflects our partnership in addressing key challenges facing Nigeria today,” he said.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development welcomed the intervention, noting that it would complement ongoing government efforts to enhance food production and reduce insecurity in rural communities.

The €70 million facility is expected to be disbursed over the next three years through various targeted programmes.
