EPL: YOU HAVE TO PROVE IT – ARTETA REFUSES TO ACCEPT ARSENAL ARE TITLE FAVOURITES

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has dismissed suggestions that his team are favourites to win the Premier League title, insisting that his players must “prove it” on the pitch each week.

The Gunners went three points clear at the top of the table following their 1-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday, while Liverpool suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Manchester United.

Arteta’s side have been in fine form, going unbeaten in five consecutive league matches and eight across all competitions since their defeat at Anfield in August.

However, the Spanish tactician remains cautious about title talk ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, Arteta said:

“The only thing I embrace is when I see the team, the energy, the temperature, the commitment and quality that they can deliver.

That gives me the conviction that we can go all the way. But that’s just a feeling — then the next day you have to prove it, and you can’t be busy thinking about those topics.”

Arteta also warned that the Premier League’s competitiveness means his team must stay focused and humble.

“There obviously is a lot of narrative after Liverpool lost to Manchester United. Every game in this league is must-win. We are very appreciative of that, so we don’t get carried away with anything,” he added.

Arsenal will look to extend their strong run of form when they face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League before returning to domestic action at the weekend.
