EPL: Van Dijk Sends Title Warning to Arsenal After Liverpool’s 3–0 Defeat to Man City

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has issued a firm warning to Arsenal and other Premier League rivals, insisting that the Reds will not abandon their title ambitions despite suffering a 3–0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

Speaking after the disappointing loss at the Etihad, Van Dijk said Liverpool remain fully committed to defending their league crown and are ready for what he described as a “big fight” throughout the season.

The match marked Pep Guardiola’s 1000th game as a manager, and Manchester City delivered a ruthless performance to mark the occasion.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring before halftime, and Liverpool appeared to have equalised through a Van Dijk header — but the goal was ruled out for offside. Moments later, Nico Gonzalez doubled City’s lead just before the break.

In the second half, Jeremy Doku struck a brilliant third goal, sealing the victory and pushing Liverpool down to eighth place, while City climbed back to second on the table.

Despite the setback, Van Dijk insists the team’s mentality remains strong.

“It’s about finding consistency and carrying on. Now we go to our countries, stay fit and be ready for a big run after,” he told reporters.

“We are not going to give up whatsoever. We are in November and we are ready for a long season and a big fight.”

His comments serve as a direct reminder to Arsenal, currently leading the table, that Liverpool still sees itself as a contenders despite a slow start to the campaign.

With the international break now underway, Liverpool will be looking to regroup, rebuild momentum, and fight their way back into the title picture when the league resumes.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
