EPL: SPURS MUST PLAY WITH ‘BLOOD, CHARACTER, SPIRIT’ – DE ZERBI
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi has urged his players to show “blood, character and spirit” as they fight to avoid a first relegation in 49 years on the final day of the Premier League season.
De Zerbi said the clash against Everton on Sunday must be treated as a “final”, stressing that only maximum commitment would be enough to secure survival.
He noted that a draw would likely be sufficient to keep Spurs up, while rivals West Ham United, who sit two points behind, also play on the same day against Leeds United.
According to him, the stakes go beyond trophies or rewards, describing the match as one that concerns the “future, history and pride” of the club.
He said players must understand the responsibility they carry, adding that the game represents the dignity of everyone connected to the team.
De Zerbi also confirmed that injured captain Cristian Romero will miss the decisive match after returning to Argentina, a development that has angered sections of the fanbase.
He said he understood supporters’ frustration but insisted the decision was purely medical and beyond his control.
The Spurs boss added that his focus remains fully on the match, expressing confidence that the available squad is capable of achieving the club’s target of survival.
West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo described the fixture as one of the biggest matches of his managerial career, with both clubs facing high-stakes outcomes on the final day.
