Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has warned Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta that his tactical decisions could derail the Gunners’ Premier League title bid.

Speaking on The Overlap, Neville said Arsenal have what it takes to end their two-decade wait for the title but insisted that Arteta must be more adventurous in big games.

He pointed to the recent clash against Manchester City where Arteta benched Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Martinelli, opting instead for Mikel Merino and Leandro Trossard. City took an early lead through Erling Haaland before substitutes Eze and Martinelli combined to earn Arsenal a draw.

“I don’t think 60,000 or 70,000 fans can be wrong in how they feel, and I don’t think any of us in the studio or in that stadium can be wrong either,” Neville said.

“I guarantee you that the dressing room straight away are looking at him and thinking, ‘Hmm, you’ve done it the same again… at Anfield, at Old Trafford, and now against City.’

“He’s going to regret this if he doesn’t start to take the handbrake off. I think he picks the most defensive teams he possibly can at times in big games.”

Neville stressed that Arsenal players and fans are already sensing the missed opportunities, warning that Arteta’s cautious approach could backfire.

“I said Arsenal would win the league. We’re actually wanting them to step up and we’re saying that this team can step up,” he added.

Liverpool currently lead the Premier League table by five points after five matches, while Arsenal travel to Newcastle United this weekend aiming to get back to winning ways.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
