EPL: LAMPARD SAYS IT’S FAIR TO COMPARE CAICEDO WITH CHELSEA LEGENDS MAKELELE AND KANTE

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has weighed in on comparisons between Moises Caicedo and two of the club’s greatest midfielders — Claude Makelele and N’Golo Kante.

Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, Lampard said it is “fair” to draw parallels between the Ecuadorian star and the two former Chelsea icons, given Caicedo’s rapid development and defensive intelligence.

“I played with both Kante and Makelele, and they were both amazing,” Lampard said. “Makelele was a different type to N’Golo because N’Golo could really get around everywhere, whereas Makelele basically sat in front a lot.”

The former Chelsea manager noted that Caicedo combines the best qualities of both:

“Caicedo can really do the Makelele break-up stuff really well. He closes down space really quickly, and he’s showing last season and this season that he has got the Kante bits in his game.

Caicedo is still a young player, and he is growing quickly within the group. I think it’s a fair comparison.”

Caicedo, 22, joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023 for a British record fee of £115 million, and has since become a key figure in the Blues’ midfield setup.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
