EPL: JOE COLE QUESTIONS ARSENAL’S GYOKERES SIGNING, SAYS OSIMHEN WOULD’VE BEEN IDEAL

Former Chelsea and England star, Joe Cole, has raised doubts over Arsenal’s new striker Viktor Gyokeres, suggesting the Gunners would have been better off signing Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen.

Speaking in an interview with Hayters TV, Cole admitted that while Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has secured a centre-forward in Gyokeres, the Swedish striker still comes with “a question mark.”

“He [Arteta] has got a centre-forward in, but there is still a question mark there,” Cole said. “It is not like bringing in a player like Victor Osimhen, who has already proven himself in Italy and Turkey. With Gyokeres, you’re still waiting to see how he adapts. I think he is going to be alright, but it’s not guaranteed.”

Arsenal signed Gyokeres from Portuguese giants Sporting CP this summer, after the forward enjoyed a prolific spell in the Primeira Liga. However, the Gunners were also strongly linked with Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, who eventually completed a move to Turkish champions Galatasaray.

Cole’s remarks reflect a wider debate among fans and pundits about whether Gyokeres can replicate his Portuguese league form in the Premier League — or if Arsenal missed the chance to bring in a more proven striker like Osimhen.

For now, all eyes will be on Gyokeres to see if he can silence the doubters and deliver the goals Arsenal need in their push for the Premier League title.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
