EPL: CONTE DENIES ADVANCED TALKS WITH MAN UNITED
Antonio Conte has dismissed reports suggesting he is in advanced negotiations to become Manchester United manager.
The Italian coach’s name has featured prominently in speculation about Michael Carrick’s future following United’s difficult start to the season.
However, Conte said reports of advanced discussions with any club were inaccurate, challenging suggestions that an agreement was close.
His clarification follows claims in the Italian media linking him with a return to the Premier League.
Conte is currently without a club after leaving Napoli and has previously managed Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
United’s recent results have increased scrutiny of Carrick, with their 4–1 Champions League defeat to Como adding to a seven-match winless run.
That poor form has fuelled reports about possible replacements, but speculation does not establish that the club has decided to change managers.
Conte has previously expressed interest in helping a historic club return to competing at the highest level. Those remarks, however, did not amount to confirmation of a Manchester United appointment.
For now, his position is that there are no negotiations at an advanced stage.
