Manchester City Held to Goalless Draw by Sunderland, Miss Chance to Close Gap on Arsenal

Manchester City were unable to narrow the gap at the top of the Premier League after a 0-0 stalemate with Sunderland on Thursday night.

Arsenal had earlier extended their lead to five points with a convincing 4-1 victory over Aston Villa.

City came into the match on the back of a nine-game winning streak, but that run ended on New Year’s Day as they failed to break down the newly-promoted side.

The draw leaves Pep Guardiola’s squad with 41 points, four behind leaders Arsenal.

City will next host a managerless Chelsea, while Arsenal travel to Bournemouth.
