EPL: ARNE SLOT RULES LIVERPOOL OUT OF TITLE RACE AFTER 3–0 DEFEAT TO MAN CITY
EPL: Slot Admits Liverpool Should Forget About Title Race After Heavy Defeat to Man City
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has downplayed his team’s chances in the Premier League title race following their 3–0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.
The Reds were outclassed by Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium, a result that left Liverpool sitting eighth on the Premier League table — far behind the top contenders.
Speaking after the match, Slot admitted that it would be unrealistic for Liverpool to be thinking about the title at this stage of the season, stressing that his team needs to focus on consistency and improvement instead.
“The last thing I should speak about is the title race. We have to focus on getting results,” Slot told reporters.
“Result after result after result before we can even think about that. The reality is that we are eighth. One team is quite far ahead, although City is now four points away.”
The Dutch manager added that Liverpool’s current position does not reflect the standards expected of the club, and that hard work and focus are required to get back on track.
“I said last season many times — the best way to judge the table is after 38 games. The next best way is to judge it after 19 games,” he said.
“The last thing we should be focusing on is the title race. We have to improve, that is obvious.”
Liverpool will now look to bounce back after the international break, as Slot aims to rebuild confidence within the squad and reignite their campaign.
