ENUGU POLICE UNCOVER AND SHUT DOWN ILLEGAL GUN WORKSHOP
The Enugu State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled an illegal firearms fabrication and repair workshop in Udi Local Government Area.
During the raid, officers recovered several weapons, including locally made cut-to-size single-barrel guns, two English-made double-barrel guns, eight single-barrel guns, two live and eight spent cartridges. Other seized items included three generator sets, firearm repair tools, and various exhibits.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Police Spokesman SP Daniel Ndukwe described the operation as a major step in the fight against crime and the spread of illegal weapons in the state.
According to Ndukwe, the workshop in Amofia-Agu Affa community was raided around 4 p.m. on June 30 by the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, following credible intelligence. The operation stemmed from the arrest of 32-year-old Ekene Okafor, a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, previously apprehended for conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful firearm possession.
Okafor led police to the workshop, where his gun was being serviced. The owner of the facility fled upon the arrival of officers and is currently being sought by authorities.
Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, praised the operatives for the successful raid and reaffirmed the command's commitment to curbing the proliferation of illegal arms in the state.
The police urged the public to remain vigilant, abide by the law, and continue sharing reliable information to aid in ongoing security efforts.
