Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, has carried out a major overhaul of his administration with the appointment of new commissioners and heads of key government agencies, in a move aimed at strengthening governance and improving service delivery across the state.

The fresh appointments were announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia. According to the statement, the governor has nominated Barrister Osinachi Nnajieze and Dr C.O.C. Egumgbe as commissioners-designate, with their names already forwarded to the Enugu State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.

Beyond the proposed commissioners, Governor Mbah also approved a wide range of appointments to strategic boards, agencies, and parastatals, signalling a broader reorganisation of the state’s executive structure. Kenechukwu Nnamani was appointed Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority, while James Chukwuemeka Mbah was named Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board, an agency central to the administration’s education reform agenda.

In the local government and social services sector, Dr Eric Oluedo emerged as Executive Secretary of the Local Government Staff Pensions Board, Mrs Sylvia Onwubuemeli was appointed Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Library Board, and Monday Diamond Ani was named State Coordinator of the Community and Social Development Agency. These appointments are expected to boost efficiency in public service delivery and social development programmes.

The governor also reconstituted the Governing Board of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, appointing new members drawn from across the three senatorial districts to ensure balanced representation. The reconstituted board includes Hon. Afam Nnaji, Dr Mrs. Uche Eze, Dr Mrs. Oge Uka, and representatives of Enugu West, North, and East senatorial zones. Representatives of teachers’ unions and women's groups were also included, reflecting the administration’s emphasis on inclusiveness in education governance.

Further appointments were made across education, housing, transport, waste management, and infrastructure development agencies. Notably, Chief Nwabueze Nnamani was appointed Board Chairman of the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation, while Richard Onaga and Hon. Bob Itanyi were named Managing Directors of the Enugu State Waste Management Agency and the Enugu State Transport Company, respectively. Other strategic roles include appointments to Enugu Air, the New Enugu Smart City Development Authority, the State Road Maintenance and Development Agency, and the Enugu State Roads Fund.

According to Prof. Onyia, all the appointments, except those of the commissioners-designate awaiting legislative confirmation, take immediate effect. He added that Governor Mbah expects the new appointees to bring professionalism, dedication, and fresh ideas into their roles as the administration continues to pursue its vision of efficient governance, economic growth, and sustainable development in Enugu State.

The cabinet reshuffle and appointments are widely seen as part of the governor’s efforts to reposition his administration for better performance, accountability, and delivery of tangible benefits to the people of Enugu State.
