Enugu Govt Arrests Fake Doctor Operating Illegal Hospital, Puts Patients at Risk

The Enugu State Ministry of Health has arrested a fake doctor and sealed an illegal hospital in Obollo-Etiti, Udenu Local Government Area, following reports that the facility was operating without a licence and endangering patients’ lives.

According to a statement by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Ugodu Avemaria, the operation was coordinated by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, and uncovered shocking conditions at the facility, which were unhygienic and completely unfit for medical care.

The arrested suspect, identified as Mr. Kenneth Mamah, was running St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Ada-ulo Obollo-Etiti Community, performing medical procedures without any licence, professional training, or authorization from the state ministry.

“The enforcement team, acting on credible intelligence and complaints from concerned residents, stormed the facility recently. They discovered that the owner has been conducting surgical procedures in his consulting room and other medical practices in an environment grossly unfit for any form of operative care,” Avemaria said.

The statement further noted that Mamah routinely performed surgical operations, putting the lives of unsuspecting residents at serious risk.

The Ministry of Health has reiterated its commitment to protecting residents from quack medical practitioners and warned that anyone found operating medical facilities without proper credentials will face strict enforcement actions.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
