‘ENOUGH IS ENOUGH’ – FULANI COMMUNITY PROTESTS FRESH ATTACK IN PLATEAU
The Fulani community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State has called for an end to what it described as persistent and unprovoked attacks on herders by local residents who also target their livestock.
The demand was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary of the group, Abdullahi Yusuf, on behalf of the herders in the council. He urged security agencies to halt the repeated assaults on Fulani herders, warning that such hostilities could lead to reprisals and further bloodshed.
In the statement titled “Another Attack on Fulani Herders in Riyom,” Yusuf narrated that suspected Berom youths attacked a Fulani herder, inflicting life-threatening injuries and killing one cow while injuring several others.
“The Fulani community in Riyom Local Government Area wishes to draw the attention of the public to yet another unprovoked attack on our people,” Yusuf said.
According to him, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, when suspected Berom youths ambushed a herder identified as Aliyu Sale Shehu near Rim community, Rim Ward, Riyom LGA, Plateau State.
“In the same incident, one cow was killed and eight others sustained gunshot wounds,” he added.
Yusuf lamented that the assault was one of many unprovoked attacks targeting Fulani herders in the area, with their means of livelihood continuously destroyed.
He continued:
“They attack our people mercilessly, and when some affected herders try to defend themselves, they are labeled as bandits or aggressors.
“Since the Thursday attack on Sale, there has been no response or action from the government or community leaders. This silence only emboldens the attackers and worsens the suffering of innocent Fulani herders.
“We demand urgent intervention from security agencies and call on the Plateau State Government to act before these unprovoked hostilities push the area into deeper crisis.
“The Fulani are equal citizens of Riyom and Plateau State, and our lives and properties must be protected. Enough is enough.”
